The first JMap Users Conference took place on the 24th and
25th of September, 2003, in Montreal. Over 60 JMap clients and
partners attended this premiere. We were delighted to welcome so
many people in our
beautiful city on the St Lawrence River.
The first day consisted of an intense technical workshop where JMap
administrators and integrators learned a number of procedures
to implement and integrate their JMap environment in an optimal
way. Over twenty JMap administrators attended that workshop.
The second day was the main conference, and attendees
learned the latest features of the products and had a sneak
preview of future developments. It was also the first time that
so many JMap users were meeting, and there was a great feeling
among participants that they were assisting to the birth of a
closely knit community. Interesting discussions took place on
how KHEOPS and JMap users could interact to better exchange
information, and some groups of interest -- municipal, academic,
transport, to name a few -- were taking shape.
Several online demo booths were available during lunch time.
The Cities of Montreal and Saguenay, Datacom, cmtek, and Govern
Software showed real-life implementations of JMap in a variety
of environments. The most fascinating part of the conference
was of course the great testimonials that were displayed during
the afternoon. The following organizations were represented:
-
for Quebec's National Institute of Public Health, Mr.
Germain Lebel showed how JMap helped the 2003 season of West
Nile Virus,
-
for Rogers AT&T, Mr. René-Claude Bouchard described the
implementation of JMap in the supervision of a cellular network,
-
for the City of Montreal, Mr. Yvon Sévigny showed how JMap
gradually became the solution of choice for intranet and
extranet spatial applications at the City, which has over 2M
residents and a permanent staff of 4500.
-
for Laval University, Dr. Yvan Bédard showed how online
analytical processing (OLAP) is becoming spatial thanks to JMap,
-
for Defence-Canada, Mr. François Létourneau showed how
JMap is used to add spatial dimension to a Web search engine,
Mr. Bertrand Bélair, of Sun Microsystems, ended the day by
showing how Java imposed itself on all platforms of a Web
architecture, whether a powerful server, a desktop/laptop
computer, a PDA or a cell phone. The day was concluded by a
ceremony honoring the City of Montreal, JMap's very first
customer. KHEOPS thanks all participants and presenters, and
we hope to see even more people next fall in Montreal for the
second Users Conference. |
