The JMap WMS extension allows a JMap Server to retrieve raster maps from WMS
servers. WMS servers are map servers that deliver layers of data in raster
format according to the Web Map Services specification (WMS) of the Open GIS
Consortium (OGC). Those layers are integrated into a JMap client along with
other vector and raster layers provided by the JMap server.

Users of JMap client applications can call
the WMS server themselves by entering the URL of the server. By selecting
the WMS button on their toolbar, users are able to see all WMS servers that
have been previously connected to the JMap server by the administrator.
Users are able to choose the layer they want to display, and to handle that
layer from the layer bar, thus enabling:
-
Switching visibility on/off,
-
Positioning the level of the layer
among other layers,
-
Requesting information on the WMS server that provides this layer.
